World Ocean Day: Let's Save the Oceans

Today (8 June) is World Oceans Day, since it was established in 1992 at the UN's summit in Rio de Janeiro.
This year this day the beginning of "UN Decade of Ocean Science for Sustainable Development 2021-2030", an effort to stop water degradation and find technological solutions to restore the health of ocean ecosystems and connect them to human needs.
Preserving the oceans is important because they produce 70% of the oxygen we breathe and absorb a third of the CO2 produced by humans, thus helping to counter the effects of global warming. They are also the main source of protein.
On the other hand, human activities such as intensive fishing, habitat erosion and pollution have a very negative impact on the oceans. This is why one of the SDGs of the 2030 Agenda aims to restore and conserve the oceans, seas and all related resources in a sustainable manner.
The fashion industry is also making a commitment in this area, particularly in the fight against the degradation and pollution caused by plastic. Several brands manufacture their products in ECONYL®. But what is this material? It is regenerated nylon, which is created by using what people throw away: nylon waste is recovered, regenerated and given a new life. With this material it is possible to create products by reusing it indefinitely and without taking new resources from the environment, rather by taking what is released as waste from it.
In particular, at Kauri Store you can find the products of the Re-Bello line made of ECONYL® produced by Aquafil S.p.A. of Arco (Trento), which manages to obtain soft nylon from disused fishing nets, combining quality and sustainability.
You can also find Ecoalf's swimming costumes and jackets made of ECONYL®, a Spanish brand particularly committed to the "Upcycling the Oceans" project to remove marine debris from the bottom of the oceans thanks to the support of some fishermen. The main objective is to recover the rubbish that is destroying the sea and transform it into high quality yarn to produce clothing, while raising consumer awareness of the global problem of ocean pollution.
We look forward to seeing you in store and online to make your contribution to saving the oceans!
