Today, marks the third year of the Global Recycling Day. On 18 March, numerous initiatives around the world aim to clearly highlight the central role of recycling in resource and climate protection. High water consumption, soil depletion and the use of chemical pesticides in large quantities are some of the many reasons why the fashion industry is one of the most polluting industries in the world.
However, there are many brands that take care of our environment by offering eco-friendly products and focusing their production on recycling, by going against the harmful world of Fast Fashion.
With this occasion, we want to tell you more about the brands in Kauri Store, in particular the story of FREITAG, the Swiss brand that has been producing bags since the 1990s, synonymous of innovative spirit, creativity and ecology. In 1993, the two graphic designers Markus and Daniel Freitag were looking for a functional, robust and water-repellent bag. Inspired by the heavy traffic that passed by their Zurich flat every day, the two creative talents made a Messenger Bag from recycled truck tarpaulins, bicycle inner tubes and disused car belts, creating authentic one-of-a-kind pieces. Over the years the brand has researched for innovative materials that reflect the FREITAG philosophy of cyclicity, introducing in 2014 F-ABRIC, a fabric made from vegetable fibers with minimal use of resources, highly resistant and completely biodegradable.
At Kauri Store you can find many other brands that produce with a special interest in recycling and the environment.
RE-BELLO, South Tyrolean brand now known throughout Europe, has always focused on sustainability, environmental friendliness and innovation. From fishing nets, old carpets and other nylon waste it is possible to obtain a fabric, called ECONYL, which is soft and silky and perfectly combines quality and sustainability. The same kind of recycling has been implemented in the production of ECOALF, a very innovative brand whose philosophy is "We need to find a balance between our needs and the planet's health".
Other innovative brands include ANTICHI, which produces lace underwear from recycled Pet, LUNA VIVA, a project that uses Mexican know-how to produce bags and accessories from waste materials, as well as CINGOMMA, which uses bicycle tires to produce belts, or STEINFARBEN, which produces jewelry from recycled materials
