As much as you may love autumn, the adjustment from the warm season is often difficult in some respects. Not only do you have to leave behind the fond memories of holidays, but you also have to deal with lower temperatures and days with fewer hours of daylight. These are our 5 tips to make the transition from summer to autumn smoother.
Get some fresh air
Although the cold weather encourages you to stay indoors, it would be better to always find time for a walk, even a short one, in the fresh air and, when the weather permits, in the sun. Breathing outdoors allows you to inhale more oxygen, which has a positive effect on the functioning of every cell in your body. In addition, this also positively influences serotonin, a hormone that promotes a sense of happiness and well-being.
Keep moving
Mens sana in corpore sano. Having a regular schedule with your workout will help you get back into a routine after the summer. In addition, sport is an excellent ally for releasing the tension of work. Yoga, in particular, helps you keep your body fit, improving strength, balance and flexibility, but also keeps negative thoughts and stress away as much as possible.
Take care of your skin
With the sudden change in temperature you have to pay particular attention to your skin, which is much more at risk of becoming dry and itchy. A first step is to introduce a heftier moisturiser into your skincare routine. Alongside this, you also need to go easy on the exfoliation, as you could aggravate the dryness of the skin even more. Finally, it is advisable to do a moisturising mask twice a week. You don't need to spend a lot of money, and you can even make one quickly at home. Just mix half a cup of oatmeal, two teaspoons of organic honey and 3 teaspoons of organic yoghurt, leave the mask on for 15 to 20 minutes before rinsing it off and…voila!
Stay hydrated and detox your body
Even though summer is over and you no longer feel that relentless thirst, it is important to continue drinking 1.5 to 2 litres of water a day to ensure that your body functions properly. Alongside water you can also enjoy detox herbal teas, which eliminate toxins from the body, promote an overall sense of well-being and keep you warm. There are many options: for example, dandelion helps cleanse the liver and kidneys, while liquorice has digestive and anti-inflammatory properties.
Make the wardrobe change in a sustainable way
The key word for what to wear during transitions from one season to the next is layering. This is the time of year when it is freezing in the morning and in the afternoon it feels like July. So, you need to change your wardrobe and dust off the heavier items, but remember to do it in a sustainable way. For example, don't throw away clothes you haven't used much, but try to reinvent them and if you can't, donate them. If you have to buy new clothes, choose natural fabrics and make a selection with a view to a timeless wardrobe, so that you won't regret your purchases next season.
